She posted this to Facebook last night:
“To the cop that pulled me over and took my car today: There are plenty of drunk drivers, speeders, and other people driving without a license that you could have pulled over today but no, you decided to pull me over because my tags were expired. I was not speeding, I used my turn signals and did everything else legal but you decided that I needed to lose my car because you were being an ass, you left me on the side of the road because my tags were out of date. I understand you were doing your job but there’s plenty of other people doing illegal things worse than not paying for tags you could’ve pulled over. Thanks asshole I now have no way to get to my new job.”
Let’s see, she drove in another state with expired tags for over a year, she moved back to her home state with the same expired tags from when she left, and she’s surprised that she was pulled over. To make matters worse, the car wasn’t titled in her name because she didn’t think it was fair that they wanted to charge taxes on the full vehicle price ($7,500 - $2,000 trade, $5,000 cash). She thought that she only owed on the cash part of the transaction. They impounded the car, likely because it wasn’t titled in her name.
Now she has a ticket, impound fees, and they probably won’t release it until it is registered properly. Having just moved and with a new job, she’s broke and can’t afford any of this.
I hope she has a decent pair of walking shoes.

yep your cousin is an idiot.

if it was just the tag, id probably agree. Then again that wouldnt get your car impounded.

I love Facebook. Depending on the person or people, it really brings out their stupidity or ignorance without anonymity.

To your sister:

She’s lucky she doesn’t live in the UK. If you don’t tax the car they warn you for a while but if you don’t pay they track down your car and clamp it. They also slap a nice big “untaxed vehicle” sticker on the windshield. Then if you leave it longer you lose it I believe.

No insurance? Bye car.

Yeah I’ve never seen a car get impounded for the expired tag itself. Maybe because the tag was over a year expired they figured if they hadn’t done it yet they weren’t going to so they impounded it

She’s really playing the victim. She needs to own it.

“car wasn’t titled in her name”
Okay, this is what really got me. Now I’m assuming that it had the previous owners plates? Which most people don’t realize is a felony.

Or at least register it...

I love these people that hose their lives up and then blame everyone else for their problems. How old is she? Think she'll grow out of it?

And there is a person that throws personal responsibility out the window and blames others for her mistakes.
“I know you were only doing your job, but I’m a special snowflake that shouldn’t be held down by stupid laws.”

3. Expired tags, for over a year!
2. Title not in her name, tax evasion!
1. Likely didn’t have proper insurance, because title not in here name and expired tags!
= 0 Fucks Given by her!
Also, from the cops point of view, he probably would have let her off with a warning or a small ticket, if everything else checked out. Sorry girl, 3 strike rule was applied that day.

They will also send a nasty letter if you buy a car, tax it for a month and declare SORN the day after you get it home. Apparently my car is untaxed and is a devil to society- it was already mostly stripped at this point!
Took a while on the phone to get them to understand what was going on.

Be here all week.

Yes, the cop “decided” to enforce the law, not like it’s his job or anything.
Does she have Liberty Mutual insurance by any chance?
“I pay my insurance bill on time every month, but I was texting while driving and rear ended another car, which was no big deal, but my insurance company decided to be an ass and raise my rates.”

I don’t have a sister, but if I did and she did this, I'd agree!

Yep on both counts.

Early ‘20s. I don't know if she will grow out of it. She's the rebel of the bunch (five girls).

SORN?

I found it ironic that she acknowledged he was just doing his job.

If I was somehow at a point in life where I'd let that happen, I'd be embarrassed as shit. I sure as hell wouldn't go blasting my idiocy all over facebook. I hope someone called her out for it.

Statutory off road notification. Tells the government that you won’t be driving the car, so you don’t pay any tax or require it to be insured.
This was a car i’d bought as a rally car build- needed to pay tax and insure it for the day so I could drive it home (with a horrendously slipping clutch!), then you fill out a form on the web to declare you won't be driving the car. The systems couldn't seem to cope with the short period of time as there is some delay when changing owners- registration documents are sent by post.

Gotcha. I just took a vehicle off the road, but there weren't any fancy acronyms for the process.

Read the whole thing. She also didn't title it properly, so it was still titled under someone else's name.

Sorry, your cousin.
If you’re in the south, they could be the same person.

You are having way too much fun with this. Either you are drinking or you are writing from personal experience. ;)
